2008 BEACH & BOXING HOLIDAY ITINERARY

Wednesday 23 April:

Depart Gatwick Airport at 09.45 hrs flying with Virgin Atlantic.

Arrive at Havana International Airport at 14.15 hrs. VIP meet and greet at airport and transfer to the 4 star Telegrafo hotel conveniently located at the edge of Havana's old city overlooking Parque Central and the Prado promenade.

Meeting orientation followed by transfer to the Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva (City of Sports Colisium) to watch some boxing. As you may be tired after the 9 ½ hour flight, you might want to pass on the boxing this evening and save your energy for the next 2 days.

Note: Should there be no rooms available at the Telegrafo hotel when our group booking is made, we will book into the nearby hotel which provides similar facilities and services.

Thursday 24 April:

Breakfast at hotel.

Short walk to Havana's famous cigar factory to see the many processes that go into producing hand rolled, high quality, Cuban cigars.

Transfer in horse drawn carriages to Colonial Havana followed by private guided walking tour of the main sights including stopping off at a few of Ernest Hewingway's favourite old haunts.

Return to Telegrafo hotel before transferring to the Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva to watch the day's boxing.

Friday 25 April:

Breakfast at hotel.

Free day to explore the city at your leisure. Siteseeing suggestions include the Museo de la Revolucion ( Museum of the Revoltution), the Capitolio Nacional (Capital Building) and Nacional De Bella Arts (National Contemporary Art Museum)

Transfer from Telegrafo to the Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva to watch the tournament's final day of boxing.

Saturday 26 April:

Breakfast at hotel.

Free day to explore the city at your leisure. Suggestion to visit the outdoor market by the river estuary for local goods and souvenirs.

Transfer (19.00hrs) to the famous Tropicana nightclub for dinner followed by a spectacular cabaret under the stars with champagne, local rum and coke, and a small snack before returning to your hotel (23.45 hrs).

Sunday 27 April:

Breakfast at hotel.

Check out of Telegrafo hotel and transfer in air conditioned tour bus to Varadero.

Check in at 4 star all-inclusive Sol Palmeros hotel followed by welcome cocktail.

Free time to acquaint yourself with the hotel and its many facilities between lunch and dinner.

Monday 28 – Saturday 3 May:

Do as you choose in the resort.

The Sol Palmeros hotel is an all-inclusive beach hotel providing free leisure facilities including catamaran sailing, water skiing, windsurfing, kayaks, pedalos, tennis, beach aerobics and salsa lessons, outdoor sports and games. Local scuba diving is available at a charge and the Varadero golf club is located next to the hotel.

As well as the main buffet restaurant and lounge bar, the hotel boasts Cuban, Chinese and Italian restaurants. Snack bars are also located in the gardens with a cocktail bar acting as a centre piece to the swimming pool.

A popular excursion (at an extra charge) is a catamaran cruise which includes snorkelling on coral reefs, swimming with dolphins, a delicious seafood lunch at Cayo Blanco and an open bar.

Note: Should there be no rooms available at the Sol Palmeras hotel when our group booking is made, we will book into the nearby larger 4 star Sol Sirena hotel which provides similar facilities and services.

Sunday 4 May:

Breakfast at hotel before checking out.

Transfer to Havana International Airport with Virgin Atlantic departure at 16.45 hrs.

Monday 5 May:

Arrive at Gatwick Airport at 06.20 hrs.

Package price (12 days/11 nights)

£1,645 per person sharing twin/double room.

Local costs are based on £1 = US$1.95 as published in the Financial Times on 6th February 2008 and airfares as at 6th February 2008.

Health

At the time of writing no vaccinations are compulsory, but Polio, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Typhoid and Hepatitis A are recommended. We recommend that you consult your doctor or contact the Health Advice for Travellers on the Health Literature Line on telephone no: 0870 155 5455.

Passports

All passports must be valid for at least six months after your departure date from Cuba.
